Terms of use

Last updated: 4 August 2026

These are the terms for using Level Best, the planning tool at levelbest.build, operated by Richard Cowtan trading as Level Best, in the United Kingdom (postal address available on request via the email below). They're written to be read. Using the service means you accept them.

1. The service

Level Best helps you plan, budget and run house and garden projects. The free plan includes one live project, the core tools, and a metered monthly allowance of AI assistant actions. Limits are stated in the app and may be tuned over time; we won't quietly shrink what you already rely on. Paid plans say plainly what they include, on the pricing page and in the app.

Quote requests and affiliate links. Where the app offers to send a job to a third-party trades network (such as MyJobQuote), it does so only when you ask it to, and only after you agree to that network's own terms and privacy policy. We may earn a commission when a request is taken up, and we say so beside the button. That commission never changes what the app recommends or the order anything is shown in. The network and its tradespeople then deal with you directly: your contract for any work is with the tradesperson you choose, not with us.

2. Your account

Sign-in is by emailed one-time link, so your account is as secure as your email inbox: keep that safe. Give us accurate details; your name signs the enquiry emails the tool drafts for you. One account per person.

3. Your data is yours

Everything you put into a project, budgets, notes, files, belongs to you. You give us only the licence needed to store, process and display it back to you, which is the entire point of the tool. You can export it all, in open formats, any time. When you delete it, we delete it (see the privacy policy).

4. The AI is a planning aid, not a professional

5. Fair use

The AI allowances exist so one person's scripting hobby doesn't fund-drain everyone else's tool. Don't hammer the service programmatically, resell access, probe other people's data, or use the tool for anything unlawful. We may throttle or suspend accounts that do.

6. Availability

We aim to keep Level Best up and working, but it's provided "as is", without a guaranteed service level. We'll do maintenance thoughtfully and tell you about anything disruptive. Whatever happens, your export always works: no hostages.

7. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited (like fraud, or death or personal injury caused by negligence). Beyond that, our total liability to you is capped at what you've paid us in the twelve months before the claim: which on the free plan is zero. We're not liable for indirect losses, or for the cost consequences of decisions made on your project (see section 4).

8. Ending things

You can leave any time: export your data, delete your account, done. We can suspend or close accounts that break these terms, and would only otherwise close the service with plain notice and the exports kept open long enough for everyone to leave with everything.

Changed your mind in the first 14 days? If you are buying as a person rather than for a business, the law gives you 14 days from the day you subscribe to cancel and get your money back, and you do not have to give a reason. We honour that plainly: email hello@levelbest.build within 14 days and you get a full refund, whether or not you have used the assistant in the meantime. We will not ask you to waive that right at checkout to get started sooner, because starting sooner is not worth a right you would rather keep. Your data stays exportable throughout, and cancelling the subscription does not delete it.

After the 14 days, cancelling stops the next payment rather than refunding the last one: you keep the plan until the end of the period you have paid for, and the account drops to free after that with everything still in it. Cancel from the Account page, or from the billing portal it links to. Cancelling is always self-service and always immediate; nobody has to talk you out of it first.

9. Changes

If these terms change materially we'll say so on the site before the change takes effect. Carrying on using the service after that means you accept the new version.

10. Business and Professional use

This section applies when you use Level Best in the course of business: managing projects for clients, or on the Professional plan. It sits on top of everything above; where the two differ for business use, this section wins.

You're a business customer. Consumer protections that apply to individuals acting outside a business don't apply to business use, and that includes the 14-day cancellation right in section 8. You confirm the person accepting these terms can bind the firm.

Data protection. When you use Level Best for client work, your clients' data stays yours and we handle it on your instructions. In data protection terms you are the controller and we are your processor. Our data processing agreement sets that out properly and forms part of these terms for Professional accounts: what we do with the data, who else touches it, how quickly we tell you if something goes wrong, and what happens when you leave. Where it and these terms disagree about client data, it wins.

What not to put in. Free-text fields will take anything, but please don't record health conditions, criminal matters, or anything else the law treats as a special category of personal data. The tool doesn't need it and never asks for it, and keeping it out keeps your obligations, and ours, a great deal simpler.

Your clients are yours. When you invite a client to view a project, you're responsible for having the right to share that project's contents with them, and for what you choose to show them, including costs. To your clients, you are the project manager; Level Best is a tool you use, not a party to your engagement with them, and it doesn't owe your clients professional duties on your behalf.

Invoiced accounts. Professional accounts can pay by monthly invoice, emailed to your nominated account admin. Invoices are due within 14 days of issue. Access runs from when invoicing is set up, on trust; if invoices go unpaid the subscription is cancelled and the account drops back to the free plan, with your data intact and exportable as ever. Prices exclude VAT where applicable.

Seats. A seat is for one named person; sharing a login between people isn't a seat, it's two. Seats can be reassigned when someone leaves. The same rule covers the plus one on the personal paid plan: one named person, on your plan while the add-on is on your subscription, and their access ends when the add-on does.

Early access. While Professional features are in early access they may change shape or arrive gradually. Anything described as proposed on the website is a proposal, not a promise, and you're never charged for something that doesn't exist yet.

11. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes belong to its courts.
